My new white filling has been in almost 3 weeks now, and it still hasn’t setted down.

I can’t say I’m in pain all the time; but I definitely know I’ve got a filling, and its EXTREMELY sensitive to hot and cold, and I can’t put pressure on it enough to chew.

Sometimes, more at night, it does hurt. I sometimes wake up in pain, and I seem to have pain in my jaw bone above the tooth.

Have I waited long enough for the new filling to settle in? How long does the pain from a new white filling last?

k

Hi! Just wanted to say to the previous poster, that I am in the exact same situation. Do you have any further thoughts or answers on the subject after posting? You could have “high spots” on the filling that the dentist needs to smooth out, those can create ares of added sensitivity, but I have already had that done and I am wondering if this will just continue? Well, I’m still not happy with my new filling, and its still causing me alot of pain. I’m taking the max dose of Nurofen plus using Anbesol gel.
I’ve already had my filling trimmed too, but it still doesn’t feel like its the right shape.

I went back to the dentist lat week - she said I may need root canal work, or I could wait and see if the pain settles down on its own - which could take up to 6 months!

I’m not happy with either of those pieces of advice, so I’m going to a new dentist on Friday for a second opinion. Unfortunately, a dental second opinion isn’t available on the NHS so I’ll have to pay privately; £42 for the consultaion plus xrays plus whatever else!

But I’d rather do that than be in pain for 6 months or have root canal work that i don’t need!

Let me know how you get on Sarah!

Has your filling calmed down yet?

I had a white filling last week and at first had very severe sensitivity. However this subsided, but i’m still finding it very difficult to eat on that side of my mouth - only chewing soft food and not chewing heavily as i get twinges.

This can’t be right! I am a little upset cos i only had an old (unhurting) filling replaced. I may give it another week and contact my dentist. Laura
